My Journey Into Clay
I’m Kara!
My pottery journey goes back over 40 years when I first started creating with clay. At that time, I loved to create different shapes by hand-building - some of which are still around.
Over the years, my creative pursuits needed to take a backseat to other priorities; school, work, children, life, you know…. But my passion for clay always remained in the background and I took opportunities to pursue education to hone my skills working with artisans in Ontario, Newfoundland and British Columbia. It was during this time that I expanded my skill set to include wheel work and I continue to explore new techniques and process.
I finally felt that it was time to share the work that I have been creating beyond friends and family, and so ‘Perfectly Imperfect Pottery’ began. My goal is to share unique individual pieces, all created by hand, each with their own identity.
I love the process of creation - going from a lump of clay to something useful, unique, beautiful, and colourful. Creating with clay helps me to learn to enjoy the journey, leave my perfectionism aside, and not get to attached to outcomes! I hope that you enjoy these pieces as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
Welcome to my journey, I am happy to have you along.
